I’ve reached the end of A to zed
with something every day
A poem for the alphabet
in my own special way
I’ve exercised a license
as we poets often do
But I’d like to think the end result
has been encouraging for you
It’s been a real challenge
but I’ve enjoyed the writing thing
Finding ways to give a smile
and a little pleasure bring
This is the end of April
Tomorrow is another day
But there’s be a lot more poems
throughout the month of May

What can I tell you of yellow
that’s not already been said?
Something of the pleasure it brings me
over orange or purple or red
Or one of the myriad colours
out there that there are
Because yellow is for me the best
outshining them by far
Van Gogh thought it true as well
(The man who loved the sun)
Using it to capture light
when midday sun had come
He’s been my favourite painter
for that reason for a while
And that passion that I share with him
of yellow brings a smile
There – that’s something new of yellow
that I’ve not said before
Enough to keep me satisfied
Until it’s time to write some more

Wonderful, the morning light
Here in Lincoln’s green
Falling though the branches
to reflect on water’s sheen
The lake in calm serenity
Lies quiet, save for the song
The sound of the dawn chorus
From Nature’s happy throng
And, witness to this wonderful
Display of morning light
I stand in awe and marvel
At this truly gorgeous sight

Luxuriant this time of year
the grass is verdant green
And unless I am mistaken
looks the best it’s ever been
It’s thick and lush and lovely
and loves the springtime sun
which bathes it in a golden light
until the day is done

I always pictured quite a monster
lurking down below
Beneath the waves just waiting
but for what I didn’t know
And I never, ever saw it
though I was often in the sea
So I know one thing for certain
– it never bothered me
“Underneath; the undertow”
My Mother always said
A warning to us youngsters
with stern face and look of dread
It scared the living daylights
out of us, yet all the same
We loved the sea so much
that the fear we overcame
Yet ever mindful of that warning
there are times when I reflect
That the sea with all its beauty
still deserves all due respect
The sea and me are kindred
and the ocean’s in my heart
But I’ll always heed the warning
I was given at the start

Contentment here
in greening time
Out in the garden
bottle of wine
The dogs are playing
chasing a ball
Grass is all lush
and growing quite tall
Late evening sunshine
glints between leaves
Fragrance of spring
emanates from the trees
Contentment here
in greening time
perfect now
the weather’s fine

We returned to the two circles
at the back of Findon Gorse
Following the South Downs Way
to Chanctonbury of course
Marvelling at the splendid views
of the Sussex weald below
we wandered back through Sussex green
through fields that we well know

Alone on the shingle
Salt in my mouth
Braced against wind
Looking to South
Out there in the green
Waves rise and fall
As I listen again
To familiar call
A song just for me
The swoop and the cry
The sea and its music
As seagulls fly by

Honouring the promise
as sunshine mixed with rain
I saw a massive rainbow
in the sky above again
It stretched across the heavens
a thing of pure delight
Its seven colours brightening
A truly glorious sight
