Terracotta Rooftiles

20160825_105435

We found the historic centre
by the Douro riverside
Where wine merchants rolled their barrels
and their ageless trade they plied
Then rode the new funicular
high over Eiffel’s bridge
to the magnificent cathedral
up there on the ridge

From the very top of Porto
as the sun in all its strength
burned through the lurking mist
we viewed its breadth and length
And there were terracotta rooftiles
on the buildings there adorning
in this city here in Portugal
on this lovely August morning
