Sunshine and wild ponies

Walking through the forest
I spied ahead of me
open fields and sunshine
and ponies running free
Some turned around at my approach
ears cocked as if to say
“Good afternoon to you upon
this fine October day”

I nodded an acknowledgment
politely as one does
for out here this is their domain
so its only right because
Here in the New Forest
they have the right to roam
for this has been for many years
their private English home

Virginia Red

At the end of my garden
at this time of year
when autumn’s cold hands
tells me winter is near
My Virginia Creeper
turns a deep shade of red
before its leaves start to fall
to the ground when they’re dead
It’s quite lovely to see
and in spite of the cold
this Virginia red
is as precious as gold

Autumn on the wall

Betwixt the green, the turning red
up there on the wall
Cold heralds signs of changing
as Autumn comes to call

Morning sunlight

Morning sunshine
streaming through
at the start
of this day new
Forest quiet
this time of day
footfall light
I tread my way
The heady scent
of loam and tree
hits my senses
moving me
In this hour
this quieting time
I am at peace
and all is fine
And one with nature
as its guest
I am content
at its behest

River

I am tranquility and more
my voice a soothing balm
Shining I reflect the sun
to bring you peace and calm
I am river flowing free
my waters smooth and still
Come stay a while and breathe me in
until you’ve had your fill
I hold no qualm nor discontent
My aim to heal and cure
Such is the power I promulgate
with freedom, my allure

Three Alpacas

We had a walk in the forest
and the woods round about
The weather was warm
and the sunshine was out
Then full of high spirits
it was back for some brunch
as it was too late for breakfast
and too early for lunch

But later on whilst we rested
from exertions incurred
A whoop of delight
from the kitchen we heard
And rushing in to see what
all the fuss was about
Each one of us laughed
with sheer joy and a shout

For there just outside
three Alpacas had come
to pay us a visit
in the late morning sun
Two browns and a white one
with new hairstyles it seemed
gave each of us pleasure
and joy as we beamed

They stayed for a while
and had a bit of a chat
just passing the time
about this, about that
So we took every advantage
of those moments of bliss
For it’s not every day
you get visits like this

The log cabin we hired at the edge of the Sandy Balls holiday village in the New Forest last weekend  bordered the field where the resident Alpacas lived. Seems that most days they took themselves for a walk along a path from the field which took them alongside the kitchen window of our cabin. The whoop of delight from my daughter as she glanced up to see an Alpaca looking back at her through the window as she was washing up was one of absolute joy. A very magical few moments.
