Geocaching

With the temperature feeling more like
early summer in the sun
We went geocaching in the forest
All seven having fun
Following co-ordinates
we found clues along the way
whilst pausing for some photographs
on this fine October day

Some were hidden in the undergrowth
and some beneath the trees
Some we had to dig for
down on hands and knees
We had the forest to ourselves
although we did once meet a deer
who seemed a little flustered
that some humans were quite near

He didn’t hang about too long
disappearing in a flash
Leaving us to finish off
our first fun geocache
Then, riddle solved and codeword found
with laughter in our eyes
We headed back to all enjoy
some chocolates as our prize

Roadtrip II

We’re off to the New Forest
for a long weekend of fun
Seven of us together
in the cool October sun
We’ve hired a big log cabin
In the woods at Sandy Balls
packing lots of warmer clothes
in case the winter calls

It’ll be just like a swan song
and a prelude to a tear
Before our son goes to Australia
where he’ll be at least a year
But that’s not for a while just yet
so as this road trip starts
We’ll be frolicking in the forest
fun and laughter in our hearts

Chiaroscuro Moments

The light, the beach, the evening sky
The rain across the sea
The far horizon rainbow
simply overwhelming me
A chiaroscuro moment
catching, holding me a while
marvelling at the beauty
with a wide and beaming smile

Magnificent II

Long shadows with October
the days dawn cold and bright
and the sunshine in the eastern sky
provides a gorgeous sight
Glinting on the water
and magnificently gold
Rising over Shoreham beach
to the river in the cold

And it really would be nothing
short of a crime for me
not to stop and take a photograph
for you good folk to see
My words don’t do it justice
but a picture never lies
So here you have it, golden
right there before your eyes

Simplicity II

There’s rain on the horizon
beyond a silver sea
And watching here from Goring Beach
this pure simplicity
is pretty much all that I need
to keep me satisfied
living here in Sussex
with a certain sense of pride

Breathtaking

Over in a Western sky
seen from Goring beach
a band of yellow ochre
on horizon, out of reach
I know there’s sunshine out there
but from the grey above the sea
I know the rain will come
and keep the warming rays from me

Yet, standing here and watching
the splendour in this view
I am invigorated
here with pleasure to accrue
For this vista is breathtaking
in the sunshine and the rain
which is why I simply will return
here time and time again

Holding Promise

Over Worthing Pier
A rainbow holds the promise
Sunshine always sings
