Because we can II

Staying til sunset
down at the beach
is something we do
‘cos it’s in easy reach
We might have a swim
or relax in the sun
but whatever we do
we always have fun

Ever present

The sun has shone for several weeks
and England’s seen no raining
But I’ve been on the beach most days
so you’ll not hear me complaining

A child of summer, this for me
is perfect beyond measure
Blue skies every day and warmth
revealing summers’ treasure

May to June and then July
absent precipitation
Changing colours, grass and more
across the Southern nation

The beach hut’s open every day
more rays there to capture
Watching as the sun goes down
for sunset’s daily rapture

And though the breeze is cool sometimes
With colours effervescent
up in the blue with fortitude
the sun is ever present

Wordsmith II

My pen touches paper
words turn to form
A poem appears
which for me is the norm
For I am a wordsmith
creative for those
who’ll read what I’ve written
in poem and prose

Heaven sent

Lavender is heaven sent
bringing peace and contentment
typified with fragrant scent
expressed here in this sentiment

In sunshine

Lancing beach
the sunshine
the water, flat and calm
Lazy days in summer
the breeze, a gentle balm

People out
enjoying
Conversation light
Barbecues and beers
and the sea, a lovely sight

New Treasures

A pen and a poem
and in just a few words
By the hand of a poet
new treasures unfurled

Got a new pen

What once was Brighton’s bead shop
now sells stationary
Upmarket and pretentious
but good enough for me
For on a shelf, bright colours
a row of writing pens
So I just had to have one
as I do that now and then

It’s rather good for poems
which I write ‘most every day
to capture life in words
and the things I want to say
And just as Gracey said it would
the one she showed me there
writes just like a dream
and is beyond compare

Jem’s new hat

Wandered round in Brighton
brought a brand new hat
Blue to match my sunglasses
Sylish (that’s a fact)
Felt much like a rock star
walking round the place
with lovely Brighton people
and a smile upon my face
It only cost a tenner
but it’s not about the price
For Jem’s new hat is perfect
and it’s really rather nice

That lavender time again III

3 in the annual Jemverse ‘Lavender’ series

On twenty-three seven
it seems every year
a lavender rhyme
will often appear
For it is at this time
that my harvest is due
so I’ll always have words
to share here with you

Poets

Hot summer nights
when air is still
the poet writes
his lines to fill
