Castle moats and petrichor

Walked around the castle moat
with petrichor around
protected from the wind and rain
in here with n'er a sound

The great stone walls they towered
made us feel very small
but it was all ethereal
to captivate us all

We wandered slowly, ambling
the moment special there
enjoying here the privilege
in which we all could share

The last West Pier

You'd never think from how it looks
that many years ago
the boards of this forgotten pier
I walked down oft and slow
Derelict for forty years
and then destroyed by fire
the skeletal remains now stand
as its last funeral pyre
Brighton's West Pier still it's called
but you'll need imagination
to picture how grand once it was
from this last iteration

The plan (part V)

It won't win any fence awards
but I don't really care
as I've used up all the withy
and it looks quirky there
And it's all part of the masterplan
we've been putting into play
as we visit our allotment
down the road 'most every day

So now it's looking pretty good
and things are growing well
so we'll just keep on watering
and watch the veggies swell
And it's looking fairly promising
that a harvest we will see
to bring along a bumper crop
for my wife Sal and me

Pink and Lovely

I'm not a horticulturalist
so I've really not a clue
about the name this flowering shrub
has here, I'd say, do you?

But one thing I am certain of
with n'er a pause to think
is that it's really lovely
with its many flowers of pink

The warming

Took a while to get warm
but now that I'm here
I will stay in this sunshine
with a book and a beer
and soak it all up
til I've had my fill
cos I know that its hand
will cure any ill
and there's something else
because now it's mid-May
I'm confident that
the sunshine will stay

Bluebell II

Bluebell the gorgeous
blooms into May
as the warmth of the sunshine
stays through each day
and in splendour and pride
it appears every year
from an ancient woodland
still evident here
it grows in my garden
and brings pleasure to me
for colour so blue
here daily to see

New Lavender II

I bought some new lavender
and new earthenware pots
to place out the front
with the best sunshine spots
I hope it does well
and adds to the joy
that lavender brings me
(let's not be coy)
for its fragrance divine
when it's growing like this
is my form of heaven
and takes me to bliss

Goring Beach II

With eyes open wide
whilst the world was still snoring
I went for a walk on
the beach here at Goring
and the sky was as big
as ever skies get
with a hint of blue there
for some sunshine still yet
and the breeze was refreshing
and full in my face
as I put best foot forward
in this lovely place

Points of Departure

Down on the docks this evening
as the day turned into the night
we had the special privilege
of a truly lovely sight
Part of the Brighton Festival
an experience to share
called 'Points of Departure'
to entertain us there

And it was quite ethereal
the sounds around us strange
as sculptures interacted
our perception there to change
Perhaps made even stranger
with the facemarks that we wore
it added to the ambiance
to excite us all the more

Lights shone all around us
some bright and some subdued
as we wandered the environment
and its presence we imbued
And then when it was finished
the spaced-out crowd clapped loud
for the sculptor and the Festival
which had there done us all proud

Encore

I found a song it was lovely
and gave me a buzz
with a warm mellow feeling
and simply because
music is like that
it cause no pain
though it hits you quite often
again and again
It's a friend and companion
a comfort and more
it's my constant craving
for repeated encore
