Sunshine through the V

Caught in the early evening sunshine
through the seventh tree
shining down on this fine field
and captured in the vee

Idyllic are these walks we have
each weekend at this time
an perfect be it raining
or, on days like this, just fine

And the winking of the sunshine
as I caught its setting rays
encapsulates the pleasure
we both get upon these days

To be free

The sheep in the meadow got closer and closer
as I watched them and daydreamed away
and every so often they'd give me a glance
here at the end of a day

It was a good daydream as daydreams they go
and it filled me with feelings of calm
as the sheep in the meadow meandered their way
towards me on this Sussex farm

So I stood in the corner of the field for a while
as the shadows of evening crept in
and a day again passed fading slowly away
to show me where I had been

And it was a good place to revisit all this
as the sheep made their way towards me
for I knew in that moment with clarity there
what it meant to truly be free

Forever eighty-seven

Happy Birthday my Mother
you'd have been ninety today
but forever instead
eighty-seven you'll stay

The time of your passing
though sad was still right
but I still shed a tear
on occasion at night

But on fifth of September
remembering clear
I see that you're smiling
so Happy Birthday, my dear

Beach bliss

I'm on the beach again
surprising I'd say
as it's lovely down here
on this fine summer day
and although it's a weekday
you'd have thought that some might
venture down to the beach
to enjoy the sunlight

Not that I'm bothered
for it's great here for me
on a deserted beach
right next to the sea
And they are the ones
missing out on all this
whilst I lap it up
and revel in the bliss

In my room II

In my room
I have my stuff
and it is lovely
here because
it's somewhere I
can come and play
at any time
on any day
sometimes a game
or music here
or writing poems
to bring me cheer
and my small dog
young 'Obi' there
will safely snooze
and with me share
this little room
where I can come
and be myself
and have some fun

Pit patter cathartic

Pit patter of rain
on the water down there
almost silent the sound
but lovely to share
and watching it fall
yes every small drop
I am mesmerised here
lest it should now stop

Pit patter of rain
the circles at start
concentric the spread
from the very heart
and watching them fall
to this precious scene
is a magical place
I have so often been

Pit patter of rain
as a summer befalls
with the warmth of the air
as each raindrop calls
is something to cherish
as an antonym here
to something that's good
not something to fear

Release II

In Lewes on the river path
we walked beside the Ouse
watched it flow in from the sea
meandering to use
That aged water, aged flow
o'er many years has seen
and where along its grassy banks
many souls have been

In Lewes Wolfgang, Sal and I
in spite of summer rain
walked up beside the river
as we are back here again
That aged water, aged flow
cathartic here today
releasing the endorphins
in every single way

August Undecided

August undecided
change and fickle shows
with one day sun but next of rain
so no-one really knows
Summer warmth remains though
a constant there to hold
at least for the time being
before it turns to cold

But I'm not all that bothered
so with all that August brings
I'll still enjoy each day it gives
as my voice always sings
August undecided
but there's a mystery here
as no-one knows what to expect
around this time of year

Married on a birthday

Went to a birthday party
in Surrey, Saturday night
took us a while to get there
but that was quite alright

Loud cheers when we got there
the celebrations had begun
so we hurried there to join them
so we'd not miss out the fun

And we found the cheers had purpose
for the birthday and for now
as my brother had got married
on his birthday with a vow

Charles and Geoff now family proper
overjoyed does not come close
celebrating birthday marriage
on this day to juxtapose

I am a proud and elder brother
this is the best news in a while
exuberant jubilation
evident within my smile
