September 30th

The last day of September
summer’s waxed and waned away
yet with warmth still here around me
Autumn’s yet to have its say

There’s still time for shorts and t-shirts
and for sitting in the sun
for though the days are shorter
cooler times have yet to come

So as a child of summer
Autumn days can bide their time
for I’m still happy in the sun
whilst it stays warm and fine

Many days spent

Many days have I spent
near the diamond-cast sea
as it shines and it glints in the sun
Tranquility here
with a book and a beer
and a pen to capture the fun

Summer and Winter
Autumn and Spring
this beach hut throughout the year
is all that I need
when soul shine is freed
with the beach and the sea quite so near

Of Seagulls and seasons

Throughout the year the seagulls
as seasons come and go
are always out there for me
be it sunshine, rain or snow

In the winter and the autumn
In the Springtime when it’s green
In the summer when it’s nice and warm
There are seagulls I’ll have seen

Always out there flying
or swooping ‘cross the sea
I’m so glad I have the seagulls
as they’re part of life for me

December

No. 4 of 12 in the Jemverse ’12 months II’ series

December comes and tradition
sees the tree go up tonight
Decorations hanging all around
‘most everywhere in sight

For us it sees a birthday
Holly’s twenty-five this year
and sharing it with Christmas
always brings us all good cheer

So here’s a berry-red reminder
at the last month’s curtain call
Another year to pass us by
Seasons greetings to you all

Tri-Sussex

In May there is green
as we walk on these hills
and breathe in the air
as a cure for all ills

In August there’s ochre
as the harvest grows ripe
and these hills bring a smile
from the grumble and gripe

In December there’s white
and the snow on these hills
serves as reminder
that this is Sussex still

The Light Quartet

In Spring light glistens
Fresh with the joy of new life
It leaps and bounds

In Summer light is
Simply and completely full
At one with the sun

In Autumn light fades
Lacklustre with long shadows
Evening of the year

In Winter light shines
Dancing on the brittle earth
It looks to the Spring

The Circle II

This time of day it changes
at each different time of year
Certain little nuances
as morning time draws near

In winter it is brittle
with a chill upon the air
And this time you’ll find me wrapped up warm
with coats and jumpers there

In springtime it is fragrant
with a promise born of old
Summer’s child lies waiting
to bring respite from the cold

In summertime it’s warming
Windows open to the air
To find me in my element
with sunshine here to share

And in autumn it is whimsy
Halcyon memories are here
To remind me that the passing
of this time is drawing near

This time of day it changes
but the thought remains the same
Knowing that the circle
will repeat this time again

Of the sun

Winter clung fast
to April’s last day
with rain and strong winds
to greet first of May

Yet there is still time
for the sunshine to come
with promise of summer
born of the sun

A little yellow…

A little yellow’s what I need
Springtime needs to be here now
Winter’s overstayed its welcome
time to leave and take a bow

Sunshine with its warmer feeling
needed more than I can say
Come as precursor to summer
Welcome now and with us stay

Berries Red

These berries red, they are so bright
and vibrant in the sun
Resplendent in their colour
now December has begun
They grow here in the same place
that I see them every year
And never fail, I’ll have you know
to bring a sense of cheer

And yes, it’s cold and winter’s my
least favourite of the seasons
But beauty like these berries red
exemplify the reasons
Why winter has its benefits
with wonders to behold
Even though I am not partial
to its all-pervading cold
