Twelve months four

No.9 of 12 in the Jemverse ’12 months’ series

Here’s to the humble daisy
as April comes at last
Perhaps now the sun will shine
with winter months now past
Goodness knows, we need it
coats and jumpers need a rest
for now it’s time for warmer things
and times we love the best
So, welcome first of April
and with the daisy may you bring
the sunshine we have waited for
to give us cause to sing

April Sunshine

A cream tea with scones
in April sunshine
Temperatures rising
and everything’s fine

Flowers are blooming
with scent on the air
Springtime takes hold
with substance and flair

And I’m in my element
now it has begun
Relaxed in the warmth
that comes from the sun

Indicative of summer
the springtime grows and grows
It’s getting warmer by the day
as only April knows

The light has changed, it’s brighter now
And the days are longer too
More growing time much needed
bringing colours into view

The monochrome of winter fades
replaced by green and yellow
And the warming of the sunshine leaves
me feeling nice and mellow

[A-Z April – day 9 – #I]

April cast a shadow
though I’m not in mind to care
for it was one cast by the sunshine
and the Springtime almost there

April cast a shadow
to hide the winter chills from view
heralding a summer and
warmer times anew

April cast a shadow
on the first of thirty days
showed the fool where he should go
with all his foolish ways

Percy Penguin

I once knew a penguin called Percy

He was a good friend of mine

He lived in a hole in the garden

And came out when it was fine

When the sun shone bright in the sky overhead

He came out of his hole in the ground

And we’d chase each other in the garden

Around and around and around

I knew him for one whole summer

He was the best penguin I knew

He was kind, he was thoughtful and loving

In those months that I knew him so few

We had oh so much fun in the garden

And he once came inside for some tea

But stuffed so much fish in his tummy

That there was none on the plate left for me

But as Winter’s cold fingers began calling

He came to me with a tear in his eye

And said he must soon now be going

It was the saddest ever goodbye

And so, on one Autumn morning

He left his hole in the ground

And with just a wave of his flipper

He left me without a sound

I cried for a week thereafter

I missed Percy Penguin so much

But although he’d be gone all winter

I knew he’s still keep in touch

In March he sent me a postcard

To see how I was getting on

He said he was looking forward to summer

I can’t wait for the summer to come

It’s now April and the Spring is upon us

I cleared out Percy’s hole in the ground

For soon I shall be with my penguin

Chasing round and around and around

Took a trip down to Portsmouth

The sun was shining bright

The Spinnaker Tower in all its glory

Was an awesome sight

Sat a while in April sunshine

Walked round Gunwharf Quay

Took some pictures, watched the water

As boats sailed out to sea

Felt the warmth of summer growing

As I wandered round a while

Days like these bring joy of living

Refreshment with a smile

March’s chill met April spill

The six month winter gone

Friday came, bringing May

Warm sun shining long

Faintest breeze, sea sound there

The beach mine own again

Ever changing but somehow still

Staying just the same

Glint upon the water strong

Sky a cloudless blue

Sea-haze shrouding Brighton’s sprawl

As I welcome summer new

This is again my solace here

Beach hut one-o-one

Long hours of resting peacefully

‘Neath days of summer sun
