Morning sunshine

Sunshine of a morning
from my window up here high
shining on the hilltops
as the early birds go by
It's great to see it every day
it seems this summer here
as it brings a peaceful feeling
and fills my heart with cheer

The new me

New week and new me
at least that's the intention
as I don't want to dwell or
perhaps even make mention
of what this past fortnight
has been my malaise
which sadly protracted
itself there for days

As I'm mostly I think
a quite chirpy fellow
not given to stupor or
times when quite mellow
inactivity rules and
the mind gather dust
and an ache of the limbs
like a mildew or rust...

...takes over and holds
with insidious intent
and proclivity there
a confidence dent
It's an alien concept
which doesn't compute
engenders confusion
there oft to dispute

Polar opposite even
I'd be bold here to say
so whenever it comes
it's whisked swiftly away
and gregarious me
full of yellow not blue
comes back to the fore
as here is my due

So with that cheery thought
on this fine Monday morning
with all malaise past
and new chapter dawning
it's into the yellow
I jump with a cheer
for this is a new me
quite in evidence here

[The ‘malaise’ was Covid-19 to which, after over two years of caution, we finally succumbed. Fully recovered now though, I’m pleased to say]

A revitalisation of cheer

Hiding in long shadows
of a small gig still I stood
listening to the music
but wishing that I could
find there the enjoyment
that my friends and others there
clearly understood as in
the moment there they shared

Yet despite the disappointment
in the long shadows here with me
a certain feeling lingered
that I knew with certainty
Said I was meant to be here
as this venue and this place
was testament and evidence
of promise born from grace

A promise of live music
in whatever shape or form
could once again be heard and felt
and be again the norm
So despite the fact the music
here was not my cup of tea
I knew one thing for certain
and with utter clarity

And it definitely wasn't hiding
in long shadows or elsewhere
as it had something to shout aloud
with vibrancy right there
That this time this place this venue
this gig this music here
is what the heart has needed
to revitalise my cheer

Guaranteed to cheer

The yellow of Forsythia

is blooming back and front

as we are fortunate to have

two bushes to be blunt

So no matter where we look

be that to rear or the street

it is yellow there we see

which really is a treat

It is the first to spring to colour

every Springtime every year

and like us I’m sure you will agree

is guaranteed to cheer

In Sussex

Rainshadow on November sea
braced against the weather we
into strong sou’ westerly
In Sussex where we live

Sunbeams struggle in the grey
on this brisk November day
as we venture out to play
in Sussex where we live

This coastal strip our comfort here
always bringing plenty cheer
no matter what the time of year
In Sussex where we live

Beach and happy

The beach, yes I know
I have written before
and will again, I am certain of that
For when I am here
my heart’s full of cheer
and sees happiness here as a fact

For this is contentment
and solace and more
It’s my haven, my favourite place
And if you were here
you’d see that from the cheer
that is written all over my face

Lifting II

I’m thinking of a song I heard
one that brought a grin
for that is what I need right now
with the state I’m in
I’m trying hard, don’t get me wrong
and I know I’m not alone
as there are many others out there
who like me must stay at home
But it’s hard remaining positive
so I need a helping hand
provided by a favourite song
sung by a favourite band

For music has that special power
to lift when things are low
and bring you right back up to speed
when all around is slow
So I’m singing loud that song I heard
with the grin it brought to me
as that is what I need right now
for the lifting here you see
And I’ll keep right on singing loud
for everyone to hear
As in these troubled times a song
is bound to bring some cheer

Humbling pride and cheer

Someone I have never met
humbled me today
posted comment on my blog
with what they had to say

Tears they trickled as I read
with joy and pleasure there
And the tugging of my heartstrings
was way beyond compare

For these were words straight from the heart
with feeling posted there
Did my heart proud and brought to me
a bucketload of cheer

Of Writers and Readers I

Part 1 of 3

Cathartic the writing
the pen to the page
Words from the poet
the seer and sage
To capture life’s moments
like a photograph here
And bring to the reader
a little more cheer

The Poet’s Gift

Beauty in
a little verse
Never sad
and never terse
Words to cheer
and bring a lift
All within
The Poet’s gift
