In my solace and respite
with the sun streaming in
I'm at home in my room
as you'll see from my grin
for all that is in here
is here to bring joy
with things I've collected
since I was a boy
It's here that I write
and here that I play
be it music or games
sitting here day by day
It brings 'joie de vivre'
my raison d'être
for all inspiration
in life that I share
10 of 12 in the Jemverse summer 22 series ‘Melting Days’
In fields of long summers explored as a man
I still have the fun 'cos I know that I can
For as long as the sun shines in blue of the sky
You'll find me out there with a satisfied sigh
Looking out 'cross windswept beaches
though this one's far from home
a familiar feeling warms me
from all the views I've known
For here I'm in my element
close to the sea, my heart
a synergy that's part of me
and has been from the start
Caught a sunset to die for on the beach in the gold
just there in time in the afternoon cold
and down on the shoreline where the waves meet the sand
just down from the shingle took in this view grand
And breathing in deep the fresh salty air
I knew perfect the privilege I had to be there
For this was a moment to seize for the day
and know a contentment in every way
This place, this haven
it's all of us
and we all miss it
if because
for some misfortune
or mishap
we have to tell
the little chap
there'll be no running
through the grass
or round the corner
as we pass
So thankfully
that is quite rare
as we are most
weeks always there
and yesterday
was no exception
you'll have gathered
with perception
by glancing at
the picture here
and seeing on
his face such cheer
So no you weren't
at all mistaken
as we are back
at this our haven
In this field
of seven trees
when we can be
quite at our ease
As Obi runs
and Sal and I
watch him there
as we walk by
The deep blue of this summer sky
is quite enough for me
here in the field of seven trees
where Obi runs quite free
These really are our special times
this hour each week we spend
and, truth be told, for sanity
on this we both depend
For it is a solace, comfort too
to walk an hour here
at the evening of a weekend
to fill our hearts with cheer
I came down to the beach
after a long and arduous day
the sunshine still quite high
and quite hot still I would say
I walked the four miles there
with my AirPods in my ears
listening to Underworld
as I have done for years
And when an hour later
at the beach hut I hold dear
I cracked open a bottle
for a welcome cooling beer
Then I sat down in the sunshine
as is dropped down in the west
relishing the warmth
at this time of day, the best
The sky was cloudless blue
and the sea reflected there
the wonder of the summer
late July gave us to share
Sometimes a biplane
will fly overhead
some of them yellow
and some of them red
Sometimes a seagull
will call on the breeze
as I sit in the sunshine
its warmth on my knees
Sometimes the sea
I will many hours view
for this vista has charm
and always feels new
Sometimes this beach hut
we've had now for years
will pull at heartstrings
and reduce me to tears
Sometimes I ponder
when pensive of mind
that this life is good
and for me very kind
And sometimes these words
I will craft into rhyme
to read and reflect
on from time to time
Mock Orange and the bumblebees
buzzing in the sun
spreading fragrance in the garden
now the summertime is come
The deepest blue of sky above
the wisp of clouds, the breeze
warm and gentle on my brow
and cool upon my knees
Contentment a prerequisite
quite impossible to be
in this place without it
perfection here for me
So here I sit and contemplate
and breathe the fragrance there
soaking up the sunshine
that this garden has to share
...all about me and my life in words. I write most days, carrying an ideas book around in which I capture a word snapshot of life around me. So there's a lot here about Sussex and the sea and anything else I see that inspires.
The pictures are mine too. Some taken to match a poem; some poems written to match a pic; others chosen because they work well with words written.
Jemverse is life in words. Hope you enjoy the reading as much as I enjoy the writing...
