Counting the days II

I’m not past my prime
yet sometimes I feel
it takes longer these days
to recover and heal

And I know that the sun
should help me feel well
But sometimes it seems
very much the hard sell

So I think what I need
is a break well away
A bit of a rest and
a nice holiday

And as luck would have it
that’s happening soon
A week’s cruise to Greece
that we booked back in June

Just four weeks away
so we’re counting the days
as we both need a rest
from this pesky malaise

Excited

I’m on my way to Gatwick
to board a big jet plane
which’ll take me up to Glasgow
on my travels once again

It’s quite a way, four hundred miles
and sixty-six point two
so I’m pleased that I am flying
from home to my venue

And I’m really quite excited
as flying is a treat
First come first served at check-in
Hope I get a window seat

I’ve never been to Glasgow
so I’ll be writing there for sure
the experience to share with you
when I’m at home once more

London Buzz

Heading to London
it’s been quite a while
Yet, always a visit
elicits a smile
It still brings a buzz
every time I come here
with so much to see
and bring me some cheer
And whether I come
for work or for play
It’s always exciting
What more can I say?

Atlantic surge

Outside our porthole
down on deck one
the waves surge against us
and it’s brilliant fun
Because sometimes the sky
we can see as we oughta
whilst the very next moment
we’re all underwater!

Malaga I

Boarding our Dreamliner
Thompson did us proud
For we had extra legroom
and the engines weren’t too loud
The outbound flight as always
thrilled us to the core
England disappearing
through the window there we saw
And just two hours later
as we woke up from a snooze
The wheels touched down in Malaga
for our Iberian Treasures cruise

Exciting II

It’s actually quite exciting
When writing to a theme
Finding every day new words
Discovering what they mean
Crafting them to lines of verse
Sparking interest or a smile
Which later on reflection
Garner substance or beguile

Such is the gift of poets
Capturing words or wit or whim
For the pleasure of the reader
Evoking laughter or a grin
We can conjure up emotion
Bring life’s moments to the fore
And create anticipation
With the reader wanting more!

Day 5 of the ‘Blogging A-Z challenge

Exciting

Mugginess building
Yellowing skies
reckon we’ll soon be
in for surprise

Distant rumbling
of the thunder
Overhead dark
clouds asunder

Spatters of rain
smack the ground
as people shelter
all around

Then the crack
Electric lightning
It’s scary but
It’s quite exciting

Thunderstorms
my favourite thing
Make me want
to shout and sing
