First IV

4 of 12 in the Jemverse ’12 months III’ series

December is here and as the first arrives
I am content for Christmas
to make its annual entrance
November’s too early or course
But this year there were ads in October
which borders on a step too far.
Yet today with a house full of adults remembering childhood
dusty boxes from dark attics
open to reveal their treasures
And sparkle brings glow as festive spirit blossoms into joy

Boxing Day (haiku)

And Boxing Day comes
Fatigued, we have rest today
but the star still shines

Tri-Tanka II (Festive)

All decorations
up by first of December
Christmas is coming
Though earlier every year
commerce would have us believe

No bah and humbug
despite my reservations
As into spirit
flowing with the tinsel here
my heart goes to the yuletide

And into the fray
firmly with gusto I tread
‘Ho ho ho’ sung loud
I am the voice of Christmas
Seasons greetings one and all

December

No. 4 of 12 in the Jemverse ’12 months II’ series

December comes and tradition
sees the tree go up tonight
Decorations hanging all around
‘most everywhere in sight

For us it sees a birthday
Holly’s twenty-five this year
and sharing it with Christmas
always brings us all good cheer

So here’s a berry-red reminder
at the last month’s curtain call
Another year to pass us by
Seasons greetings to you all

Christmas sheep

I am resolutely steadfast
Not to wish the time away
But have been reminded since September
That it will soon be Christmas day

Father Christmas lights and tinsel
Shops force, brazen, to our thoughts
Whilst I’m still thinking ‘summer’
In my sandals and my shorts

But December comes next Monday
So from the attic I will find
The decorations box and tree
For a Christmas frame of mind

Until then to get us in the mood
From Christmas time last year
Here’s Shoreham’s famous concrete sheep
In seasonal head gear.
