Wildflower

Wildflowers in our garden
whilst not a meadow are
nonetheless quite lovely
if not spectacular
From little tiny daisies
to blue and purple there
with bright red in the background
there's little to compare

A splash of yellow (revisited)

3 of 6 in the Jemverse ‘Yellow’ series

As Sussex leans towards
the winter months to come
My garden’s seeing less and less
of bright and warming sun

And yet a splash of yellow
by the path I spied today
Reminding me of summer
in a very special way

That little flower will give me
something precious to keep hold
as the winter comes to Sussex
and it starts to get quite cold

Caryopteris

With delicate blue flowers
Caryopteris in the sun
Brings a certain cheerfulness
Enjoyed by everyone

And though Autumn’s round the corner
The beauty here displayed
Retains a bit of summer
As the green begins to fade

The flower tree

Overlooking Falmer
we found a flower tree
High on top of Sussex Hill
quite unexpectedly

We paused a while and sang a song
as a homage to it there
Just us, the tree and sunshine
on this winter day so rare

Walking the Juggs Drover path between Brighton and Lewes, we spotted this tree from a distance. We don’t know the reason, but it’s lower branches were full of flower bouquets. So, having sung a song to it, we stopped a while for a picnic before heading on our way.

Lily

Dancing on a bed of white
my stamen orange in the light
I really am a gorgeous sight
for any eye to see

Fragrant there my sweet perfume
a bouquet subtle to presume
Those winter blues I will subsume
and watch them simply flee

Flower – haiku

Flowering passion
Flowers satisfy passion
Passion in flowers

Remnant of Summer

On the breath of a morning
I caught in the air
a lingering fragrance
subtle and rare
A remnant of summer
to cherish and hold
and remain with me as
the autumn turns gold

Life is a wayside flower

Saw a little wayside flower
growing right there in the street
Finding just enough moisture
to prosper down there at my feet
It seemed like a really fine testament
to all that life truly means
For there’s always beauty to be found
Where and whenever it seems
So here’s to wayside flowers
as the metaphor is clear
For every time you need a smile
some beauty will be near

The sun, some flowers and a smile

Nasturtiums and Geraniums
in the bright sunshine
Taking pictures of them out there
because all of these are mine
Oranges and yellows
offset by splash of pink
All looking pretty lovely
and splendid, don’t you think?

Occasionally a bumble bee
will visit for a while
And fairly often, butterflies
which always bring a smile
Summer in my garden
is a very special time
Especially when the sun comes out
and the weather is so fine

Lavender Nirvana

Found my lavender nirvana
down near Chichester today
A field of purple flowers
gave me heaven by the way
With intoxicating fragrance
and the sound of honey bees
There were tears of joy at just the sight
As I fell down to my knees

Brushed my fingers through the flowers
Walked between the rows
A hundred-thousand bushes
of French lavender there grows
Found my lavender nirvana
in this almost perfect place
A little slice of heaven matched
by the smile upon my face
