You can never have too much yellow (revisited)

6 of 6 in the Jemverse ‘Yellow’ series

You can never have too much yellow
for it’s the colour of the sun
And I’d challenge you to disagree
it’s not loved by everyone

For me that’s going to be the case
for as long as I can see
For it’s synonymous with summer
Where I so love to be

Mind’s Eye Pictures II

What is it with words
that by cause or by guile
Serve day by day
to give reason to smile?

As it’s said that a picture
says more than a word
which often rings true
when emotion is stirred

So what if like here
there’s no picture to show?
What then for the reader
and how would they know?

It’s then that mind’s eye
with which readers see
what it is that the writer
would wish here to be

Something for emotion
that stirs in the soul
A happy though shared
to help make you whole

The Fly-past

Gulls above the Metropole
a fly-past just for me
Here in Brighton in the sun
next to the deep blue sea

Their cry is one of happiness
and the joy of being here
With the clarity of summer
at this lovely time of year

Travel & flowers

It’s going to be a busy week
and I’ll be travelling a lot
So I’ll not mind so much
if the weather’s not as hot
London now it’s Monday
Southend on the morrow
Then Lincoln Thursday morning
returning Friday when I’ll borrow…

…a few of those long travelling hours
for a weekend with a rest
Before London comes around again
on Monday next no less
And to keep my sanity intact
I’ll be thinking of these flowers
as I traverse the length of England
over several long hours

Many happy returns

Back when it was purchased
with its buds not yet in bloom
I thought I’d save a picture
of it for the first of June
And now that day has come
and the summertime is here
I’m really pleased I waited
as its beauty is now clear

It’s name too has a purpose
and as the title above goes
We’re really looking forward
to more flowers from this rose

Our Happy Place

There is a place in London
where we’ve been members for a while
that we’re proud to call our happy place
as it always brings a smile

It’s on the Thames at Millbank
Tate Britain there, no less
A place where we can lose ourselves
in wonder, we confess

So at every opportunity
we’ll take a trip up from the coast
and spend some happy moments
in the place we love the most

Random acts of kindness

A random act of kindness
in a word or by a deed
can bring a ray of sunshine
to someone who has the need

And when it happens, always
you can rest assured and know
that little thing you said or did
has brought a nice warm glow

Twilight

A walk on the beach with sand at my feet
under a yellowing sky
The sun has set over there in the West
as a seagull flies slowly by
This twilight hour as night time falls
has a peace that is all of its own
As I savour the light and breathe in the air
of the sea I have long loved and known

Contented treads…

Walking slowly on the shingle
the crunching ‘neath my feet
as pebbles slip and slide
and tideline flotsam
with my roving eyeline meet

Crossing sea-sculpted grounds
the distant shoreline fades
as tide comes in
and lapping waves
with salted sand-scape trades

This is my beach, my haven
my extra-special place
as contented treads
and all will know
with smiles on my face

Close to the sea

The joy of a home
that is so
close to the sea

Is something
particularly
special to me
