Simple pleasures

Writing in my little book
really brings me pleasure
just crafting lines of poetry
to hold and yes, to treasure
I just can’t stop myself I find
I simply have to write
be that in the daytime
or late into the night

As when the words are out there
the poet has no choice
but to sit and write and capture them
so others can rejoice

For when the reader sits there
and sees in their mind’s eye
the place the words they came from
and smiles and breathes a sigh
that magic is repeated
time and time again
with lines re-read, repeated
in a poem’s sweet refrain

And if as me a poet
can, when writing takes a hold
capture just a part of that
it’s as precious as pure gold

For though stopping isn’t possible
it’s really nice to know
that pleasure is repeated
from my words when in full flow
So I’ll take that simple pleasure
as I really like to give
pouring out the joy that comes
from words that simply live

Bringing joy

Never fails the trail
regardless of the time
that I have traced my steps up here
when the weather’s fine
Well trod chalk the wayside flower
the blue sky and the sun
combine here in God’s country
bringing joy whene’er I come

Sunshine as a friend

Yellow, warming
lifts my soul
Catches, comforts
makes me whole
Brings a shoulder
to console
the sunshine as a friend

Gives a smile
when scarce are they
Keeps the blues
quite well away
Brings a welcome
to the day
the sunshine as a friend

Heals me always
ever there
Sometimes hidden
sometimes rare
But always with
a joy to share
the sunshine as a friend

Of rainbows and promise

The promise over our house today
in the sky right after the rain
gave us both a feeling of joy
when it with its radiance came

The colour was vivid, the arc of it wide
and though brevity saw its demise
its purpose was clear, one of promise and hope
beneath it revealed to the wise

First IV

4 of 12 in the Jemverse ’12 months III’ series

December is here and as the first arrives
I am content for Christmas
to make its annual entrance
November’s too early or course
But this year there were ads in October
which borders on a step too far.
Yet today with a house full of adults remembering childhood
dusty boxes from dark attics
open to reveal their treasures
And sparkle brings glow as festive spirit blossoms into joy

Joy to Share II

So here beneath the leafy green
Another day in Kew
I stand beside the River Thames
and see this lovely view
The tide is high, the water deep
The sky with promise there
As through the trees the sun appears
and I have joy to share

Joie de vivre V

To be honest
there are many things
that bring a joie de vivre
as I get pleasure
from the simple things
I see each day ’round me

It is zest and
it is laughter
It’s both these things and more
It’s the essence
of the wonder
to find out what life is for

Joie de Vivre IV

And then there’s music
brings me back
when really I’m still there

Brings a tingle
brings a shiver
A joie de vivre to share

Joie de vivre III

Just a simple glimpse
of yellow does the trick
to bring a smile and tear

Fills my heart
with summer sun
and joie de vivre and cheer

Christmas Day (haiku)

The joy has arrived
Christmas Day as Yuletide falls
And a star is born
