Nature’s evening slumber

Upon the ground this time of year
the yellow, red and gold
A carpet of pure loveliness
from trees both young and old

Crunchy in the sunshine
fragrant in the rain
It always brings a certain cheer
when autumn comes again

Nature’s evening slumber
change, good as a rest
particularly with the colour
which this time of year is best

Leaves falling

Today there are leaves falling
It is time for fleeces
and hot cocoa and open fires
Long walks in crisp air with
a quickening stride
and fleeting looks
Soon there’ll be clouds
as breath escapes in silent
sharp whispers and
mittened hands clap out
the beat and rhythm
of a creeping cold
But not today
Today there are leaves falling

Autumn’s voice

Amidst the green in the valley
was a splash of bright red
Heralding change with
leaves yet to shed

With voice of the Autumn
the colour stood proud
For it has much to say
and must therefore be loud

The Falling

Intangible, there’s something
different in the air
Not too sure about that though
as it’s not, as yet, quite there
Some say it is the Autumn
knocking at the door
Yet today I felt the summer
coming back for more

Having said that, there’s a fragrance
feint upon the breeze
The sunshine’s lost a little strength
and there’s a browning to the leaves
So I guess it won’t be long
until the crunching time is near
When everything turns golden
at the falling time of year
