Spinning words

Sought after, captured
the words like a star
Precious like diamonds
and seen from afar
Nurtured and fashioned
committed to pen
falling to page
to ponder and then
when story is told
and deed it is done
the poet can rest
from the words he has spun

Things to do on hot days III

And yes there is the beach hut
turquiose, waiting by the sea
a favourite and always
where we’d really like to be
For here the air is tranquil
and the view it is sublime
full bodied and resplendent
like a really good fine wine

Something here to savour
and breathe in and just enjoy
for it’s freedom in in the making
in our gift here to employ
A privilege not lost on us
so you can be quite sure
that we all make the most of it
always coming back for more

Easy Reach

I found a stone and threw it
far out into the sea
watched it splash and disappear
here quite contentedly
For this haven is my solace
and fortunate am I
to have a beach to come to
not far from home, close by

I traced an outline with my foot
upon the wetted sand
A shape turned into letters
written large and freely and
as the seventh waves’ momentum
smoothed my canvas on the beach
I breathed a prayer of thank yous
that I live in easy reach

Underworld

Excitement builds, anticipation
for this spectacle I’ll see
with Mr Gwilliam, my friend
who will be there with me
We’ve waited now for ages
but the time is here at last
as off to Wembley we both go
for jollies and a blast
Underworld (‘Born Slippy’)
‘Tiny Holes’ and drumming loud
along with several thousand others
we will be there in the crowd

Photo – Underworld at Brighton Dome, 2015. Tonight we catch them at London’s SSE arena in Wembley. [NB – if you know Underworld, you’ll know the context of ‘born slippy’ and ‘tiny holes’; if you don’t, sorry about that, but hopefully the rhyme and syntax still work with the words for you!]

The echo of life III

If a moment pauses
and time stands still
If an eye sees
and memories are captured
Then I am the echo of life
Reflecting beauty
I bring contentment

First Bluebells

Saw my first bluebells
in the sunshine today
Quite close to the river
down Old Shoreham way
All there in a cluster
with joy to regale
growing wild by the wayside
Beside the old trail

Brightening

Just a few words is all it takes
to change the way I feel
Escapism? maybe sometimes
but they have the power to heal

Just a few words each morning
finds a way to say
something new to bring a smile
and brighten up my day

Sussex Fields

Sussex fields so
bright and green
nicest that I
think I’ve seen
And when the sun
breaks over hill
I think that they
are nicer still
