Reflection replete

I took a picture of our house today
in the hub cap of a car
parked across the street because
it looked spectacular
The car, the house, reflection
I’m talking ’bout all three
and something in particular
there which fascinated me

So much so I had to take
a picture there and then
as you never know when happenstance
will catch you out and when
‘Je ne sais quoi’ the moments
when instinct is complete
and ‘carpe diem’ takes a hold
reflecting life replete

True Measure

Mesmorised here
I stand in wonder
with bated breath waiting
Lost in a temporary pause
as momentum gathers
for a true measure

Rippled the water
as raindrops disturb
and a reflection fails
Lost in a temporary pause
it gathers momentum
revealing treasure

A reflection of winter

I caught an oak’s reflection
in a puddle Friday last
whilst walking in a field
by a tree that I went past

It reminded me that winter
on this chill November day
was close as from its branches
all the leaves had gone away

So I didn’t dilly dally
but paused there just enough
to ponder that reflection
of the tall oak there above

A soliloquy for Christmas

A soliloquy for Christmas
with a little introspection
Thinking of the year that’s been
in pensive contemplation
And looking forward to the next
anticipation growing
For all the promise that’s in store
A smile, as I’ve the knowing

This Christmas morning silence
affords a moment still
For soon there will be laughter
with gifts exchanged at will
And then there will be merriment
The epitome of joy
Christmas with the family
with promise to deploy

Reflected summer

Summer in the water
reflected by the green
Its millpond surface smooth
reflecting where I’ve been
Days of warmth and pleasure
bathing in the sun
Life exuding nature
enjoyed by everyone

And here beneath an oak
its boughs of green spread wide
I’m reminded of its excellence
reflections here beside

And if I thought…

And if I thought the sunset view
was a lovely sight
Just imagine my reaction
when I saw it later at night

Newcastle lights reflected
in the waters of the Tyne
With the bridges in bright colour
looking wonderfully fine

Enough, I have to tell you
despite the chillness in the air
for me to stand and gawp a while
at the wonder of it there

Black Swan

Early morning in St James’
A black swan came swimming by
Reflected in the water
as if to beautify
It was a peaceful moment
London slumbered all around
and in the stillness of the hour
I could barely hear a sound

Shiny Shiny

Shiny shiny
the river today
as slow to the sea
it ebbs on its way
On the footbridge I pause
and soak up the sun
on this wonderful morning
as the day is begun

It’s a marvellous thing
shiny moments like these
at the height of the summer
with a southerly breeze
Shiny shiny the sunshine
so bright in the glare
reflecting on water
and beautiful there

Reflection

Shadow of a crown of thorns
high up on the wall
held there in a flickering light
sweetest thing I saw
Around me people quietly prayed
the Spirit, moving, felt
a whispered word, a silent prayer
shared as people knelt

Akin there to a healing light
flickering on the wall
held silent by a shadow
beckoning a call
The shadow of a crown of thorns
up there in plain sight
here on this Good Friday
reflecting what is right

Reflected blue

Reflected in the River Thames
the blue of a March sky
still and peaceful water there
as I walk slowly by
Underneath the overground
at Kew, West London way
walking by the river
on an early Springtime day
