To feel the sea

A ship is out there sailing
I can’t see it but it’s there
Out upon the ocean waves
of me, it’s unaware
And yet a synergy akin
we share both it and I
Affinity with ocean wide
as both go passing by

I’m landlocked now but often
to the seashore I am drawn
to gaze out to horizon
on an autumnal morn
And I know that out there somewhere
a ship is sailing by
And it, like me, will feel the sea
beneath a deep blue sky

Several Oceans

1 of 3

Sailed several oceans
then came home for a rest
as the ocean of home
is always the best
For it’s here that my heart
with the sea that I know
will always stay true
wherever I go

Sailing into Venice

9 of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

Sailing into Venice
is there a better way?
I certainly cannot think of one
on this this lovely warm Monday
The sunrise golden in the east
The sky an azure blue
As slowly through the islands
we sail to this fine view

Through the porthole

No 6. of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

Outside our porthole as we sail
the water rushes by
Sometimes a flat calm and
sometimes waves are high

This morning we saw dolphins
which was as lovely as could be
Whilst tonight at dusk the moon was bright
shining on the sea

It’s great to have it with us
the oceans deep and wide
as on the Celebration
from Marella here we ride

Into Gold

4 of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

We sailed into the sunset
quite literally into gold
Leaving Bar behind us
to Korcula’s island old
The sky turned red around us
The sun sank to the sea
as into arms of gold we leapt
quite romantically

Adriatic Sunset

2 of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

As Adriatic sunset came
the sun fell on the sea
and glinted golden on the waves
where it shone brilliantly
Dubrovnik settled to the dusk
as we set sail on par
leaving after nightfall
and heading off to Bar
Montenegro beckons now
The lights fade with the view
Dubrovnik has been wonderful
but now we’re off to somewhere new

Approaching Kefalonia

Part 16 of 20 in “The Aegean Shores’ series

Islands in the distance
across the azure seas
A force five blowing from the east
feels like a summer breeze
Kefalonia looming
on the horizon through the haze
For a seven-hour stopover
on the last but one of days

And it really is quite magical
here up at the prow
Watching our approach to land
so quiet and peaceful now

At Sea

‘At Sea’ – 2 of 20 in ‘The Aegean Shores’ series

Slumber with the engine’s thrum
through decks one to five
Come morning though, the sunshine
makes us come alive

Streaming through our window
across a deep blue sea
This borders on perfection
for my soulmate, Sal, and me

Anticipation III

Anticipation is
a marvellous thing
especially when coupled
with enjoyment to bring
I’ll give you example
in these few words here
of something that’s bound
to bring lots of cheer

For in just two more sleeps
we’ll be on our way
for a seven-day cruise
on a week’s holiday
We’ll be flying to Spain
then off for a sailing
The Mediterranean
climes for regaling

The Rock of Gibraltar
Portugal too
in a sea that is bound
to be lovely and blue
The ship’s called the ‘Spirit’
from the Thompson cruise line
And we know that the weather
will be balmy and fine

And as my pen is sure
to be travelling with me
there’ll be poetry here
for you all to see
For each place that we visit
and the things that we do
will be captured in words
and repeated for you

The seldom end of summer days

From the beach today I saw a ship
a long way out to sea
Out there in the channel
it was calling out to me
It bade me come and join it
as it steamed to warmer lands
But alas I sadly shook my head
as I stood there on the sands
With wistfulness I watched it go
waving as it sailed
As the sunlight caught the water
disappointment thinly veiled
But as I turned, as little grin
served as a reminder
that it would not be long until
another summer blinder
For then I will be here most days
beside the sea, my friend
From morning through late evening
on days that seldom end
