Interesting things II

I often search along the shoreline
where the tidemark’s clear and good
for interesting shells and stones
or bits of sea-washed wood

Sometimes there are stones with holes
or lengths of knotted rope
The choice is ever-changing
and there’s never lack of scope

Then later when these things are dry
I will use then every one
Shaped to form as testament to
the sea from whence they’ve come

Driftwood sculptures on the wall
or free-standing on their own
The treasures from the shoreline saved
and each one given home

Watching

I watched the sea, it did me proud

I smiled at it and laughed out loud

The waves they roared, I roared right back

As I wasn’t having any of that

Alone on the stone with sun and spray

On a fine and perfect Springtime day

On the shoreline with the crashing sounds

That filled the air and shook the ground

I shouted loud, could not be heard

Save by a high fly seagull bird

Green and blue the waters came

Crashed and turned and crashed again

Alone I stood and marvelled still

At those impressive seascape hills

Interesting things

I search along the shoreline

Where the tide has left its mark

For interesting bits of wood

Or shells or sea-washed bark

Sometimes there are stones with holes

Or lengths of knotted rope

The choice is ever changing

And I never want for scope

And later when all these things are dry

I will use them every one

Stone chains in the garden

Bleached by the summer sun

Driftwood sculptures on the wall

Or free-standing on their own

The treasures from the shoreline saved

And each one given home.

Capturing a smile

I watched a seagull on the shoreline today

And, as he went soaring, I believe I was heard to say

That this singular moment was spectacular

Probably to myself and no-one in particular

Because, apart from the lapping sea

And an empty expanse of sand

And the seagull up in the sky

I was alone in that moment, and

It was special, exquisite, a captured smile

Lingering with the taste of salt on my lips for a while

Shoreline

I walked along the shoreline

Not been here for a while

A bracing walk ‘neath Autumn skies

Gave pause to bring a smile

Not much respite to bring repose

Afford soliloquy

But walking here by Sussex shore

Is quite enough for me
