Skyfeathers

I looked up early evening
to see feathers in the sky
wispy there within the blue
floating slowly by

And it was whimsical right there
cathartic I would say
relaxing and just gazing
at the tail end of a day

So there I stayed eyes upward
as the evening took a hold
and the sunshine started fading
to the sunset with the gold

Beach IV

The beach is a landscape
when the tide is this low
the sky big and wide
with the shingle below
the water far distant
with rocks in between
with familiar seaweed
we've so often seen
yet it still brings excitement
for adventure and more
which over the years
we have used this beach for

So we'll treasure this landscape
by the edge of the sea
which has long given pleasure
to this family
and under the sky
with its canopy wide
we will wander and still
in its friendship confide
for we are as one
this landscape, this reach
down here in fair Sussex
and at home on the beach

Gull

And high above I climb into the blue
from down below from whence I flew
admiring the unspoilt view
white clouds above me now

My wingspan wide I'll hover there
spiralling down without a care
humans they'd be best aware
as they below me bow

My name is Gull and I am proud
synonymous my cry aloud
heard above the throng and crowd
my presence to endow

Big Sky IV

The pink up in the evening blue
divided by the grey
in a big sky above the field
on this November day

It fills me with a sense of awe
magnificence right there
the heavens just above my head
with which none can compare

And walking as the daylight fades
in lush green of the field
I smile a grateful thank you
for this big sky here revealed

Words about Seagulls

I have written of seagulls
(Well, I would, wouldn’t I?)
As, living in Sussex
you’ll oft hear their cry

They’re as much of a part
of a life by the coast
as the people who live here
The sea playing host

They’re loud and they’re boisterous
with exuberant glee
Born from the thrill
we all get from the sea

And I love every one of them
living down here
As their call and their antics
bring laughter and cheer

So here’s to the seagulls
up there in the clouds
I’m pleased I live with you
May my words do you proud

Clarity III

And the light this morning
emulates a clarity anew
Captured on the coast road
as I pass with clear sea view
Pastel pinks and subtle blue
Oranges and yellow
confirming absolutely that
I am a lucky fellow

Big Sky III

With a big sky over mudflats
out in the estuary
The rain it seems has left us
momentarily

And there are glimpses there of sunshine
in amongst the grey
with blue sky poking through the clouds
to make a brighter day

It’s a promise we will cling to
for the sun is everything
Particularly after rain
with the warmth that it will bring

Blessed

Felt blessed down on the beach front
as night time slipped away
And through the clouds out to the East
the sunshine met the day

Golden over water there
far as my eye could see
A really big sky, colour-filled
came and welcomed me

Big Sky

With a sky as big as big can be
we walked beneath the blue
Grey clouds skidding quickly past
keeping the sun in view
All we could feel was Springtime warmth
meandering on our way
As Hampshire’s Meon Valley came
to meet the end of day
The big sky stayed as evening came
and we rested with a beer
Hoping that the morrow would
stay fine and just as clear
