Seagulls, the sea and a song (reprise)

5 of 6 in the Jemverse ‘Seagulls’ series

Alone on the shingle
Salt in my mouth
Braced against wind
Looking to South
Out there in the green
Waves rise and fall
As I listen again
To familiar call
A song just for me
The swoop and the cry
The sea and its music
As seagulls fly by

A glimpse of Spring

I caught a glimpse of Spring
on the ground the other day
as a host of flowering crocuses
gathered there to say
that the sunshine’s getting warmer
so it’ll really not be long
before the sound from every meadow
is the voice of Springtime song

The flower tree

Overlooking Falmer
we found a flower tree
High on top of Sussex Hill
quite unexpectedly

We paused a while and sang a song
as a homage to it there
Just us, the tree and sunshine
on this winter day so rare

Walking the Juggs Drover path between Brighton and Lewes, we spotted this tree from a distance. We don’t know the reason, but it’s lower branches were full of flower bouquets. So, having sung a song to it, we stopped a while for a picnic before heading on our way.

The song of every ocean

I know you’ve probably heard this
many times before
And the last thing that I want
is for it to be a bore

But the song I hear each morning
at the beginning of a day
Is something I must shout about
in each and every way

It’s the song of every ocean
sung by every sea
And as I live right next to one
it’s one that’s sung to me

It’s a song of many timbres
some are joyful, some are sad
But the melody will always
leave me feeling glad

So I just wanted one more time
to share the song with you
And hope that you’ll indulge me
and maybe hear a little too

The Elderflower Song

Heavy scent floating in the air
with sunshine after the rain
The music echoes with a sweet
harmonious refrain
Daisy-like the clusters sing
the Elderflower’s song
and breathing deep the fragrance
I hum and sing along

Kissed by moving water

Kissed by moving water
gentle, sometimes strong
shingle moves the shifting sand
to the ocean’s song

Not long now

Sunshine in the mirror
Blue up in the sky
reflected in the water
winter hurries by
February receding
March knocks at the door
Spring is quietly waiting
to welcome us once more
Tiny green appearing
it really won’t be long
before we bid goodbye to winter
and sing the springtime song
