Viaduct

The viaduct on London Raod
Brighton, late at night
lit up blue with vibrancy
is a lovely sight

High above the city streets
with Victorian pride
to carry trains up there on which
so many people ride

But down here close to midnight
just a passing car
and me with phone to capture
this spectacular

Sunrise

Part 18 of 20 in ‘The Aegean Shores’ series

The sunrise in Corfu
was the best I’d seen so far
And with sunlight on the water
it was quite spectacular
Islands in the bay provided
context for the scene
A rather perfect ending
for the great week this has been

Photo – sunrise at Corfu Town, Corfu, Greece – Jempics

[This is part 18 of a 20-part series charting a seven-day cruise with Tui from 11-18 August 2017, travelling from London to Corfu, then Kalamata (Greece), Santorini, Rhodes, Crete, Piraeus (Greece), Kefalonia, Corfu and London, some 3,870 nautical miles]

And Lavender…

IMGP0238

One would think that for my birthday
something yellow would appear
Yet though that’s my favourite colour
Something else gives better cheer
You’ve guessed right, for it is lavender
my favourite by far
Of all the plants and flowers
for it is spectacular
Its fragrance is pure heaven
with the power to heal and lift
And each year upon my birthday
I could seek no better gift

Spectacular

The beauty of a sunset
seen from a speeding train
Enough to make me turn and stare
in wonder yet again
Out there on horizon
Beneath landscape’s darkened line
the golden ending of a day
Spectacularly fine

Dawn, day one and a promise

At the sunrise of
a new year’s dawn
I made a promise
with the morn
January’s here
it’s the first day
twenty-sixteen’s
here to stay

A leap ahead
a one in four
three sixty-six
more days in store
A brand new start
with good intent
begins the year
with merriment

And even though
we have no clue
what days will bring
or what we’ll do
we can make a wish
upon a star
that the year will be
spectacular
