About a book from Venice

Started last September
Eight months of poetry
My little book from Venice
has served me faithfully

But now alas I’m reaching
the last few pages here
A few more days of writing
before the end is near

That’s when this little book
I have carried every day
will join all of the others
in my study on display

And then I’ll have the pleasure
of starting up another
A book of poems filled
from the front to facing cover

As a poet who writes daily, I carry an ‘ideas book’ with me everywhere I go. I’ve done this for years now but still have every one. They each last between 6-8 months each. This one was purchased in August last year whilst visiting Venice, Italy. When finished later in April, it’ll join the others – now numbering just shy of 100. Each is a a treasure. Photo – Jempics

Of Venetian Diamonds

11 of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

Sailing east from a sunset
as rich as could be
We continued our cruise
here in North Italy

Venice passed golden
and we waved a goodbye
as a moment we shared
with a tear in the eye

As this was with no doubt a diamond day
spent here in Venice in every way

Gondolier

10 of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

Our gondolier sang songs
as he took us into shade
Cool waters in our gondola
combined with serenade

The ancient walls around us
and narrow waterways
Venetian history spoke to us
on this happiest of days

It was beautiful, exquisite
and we had a moment there
Tears of joy from what we saw
in Venice everywhere

Sailing into Venice

9 of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

Sailing into Venice
is there a better way?
I certainly cannot think of one
on this this lovely warm Monday
The sunrise golden in the east
The sky an azure blue
As slowly through the islands
we sail to this fine view

Bellis Perennis

IMGP0379

The Bellis Perennis
is a bit of a menace
and is quite fond of tennis
as it looks like a ball

But based on this premise
a Venetian called Dennis
came over from Venice
and said ‘Not at all’

For the Bellis Perennis
in its ‘in extremis’
is without a blemish
and quite beautiful
