There is sunshine today
and I think at long last
the Spring has awoken from slumber
as forsythia yellow
like a jolly good fellow
has blooms on its limbs in good number
And although I'll admit
there's still chill in the air
the warmth of the sunshine came through
as we walked in it slow
to meander and go
with a leisurely gait as you do
The warmth of weekends
cosy from winter blankets
bodes well to the week
So with high spirits
Monday comes with gusto here
cocooned I embrace
And the warm embers
envelope and protect me
as the week proceeds
So, winter has me in its grip
and won’t let go right now
Her cold and icy fingers
spider-like across my brow
Shivering, I try to smile
and brave the worst of it
But winter’s not what I’m about
and never seems to fit
For I’m a child of summer
something that’s been said before
I clamour for the warmer months
when cold knocks at the door
I come alive with warming sun
I laugh within its glare
And always, always miss it
whenever it’s not there
I’m told that come September
England’s summer’s at an end
But I’m not ready yet, I’ll tell you
To say goodbye to my good friend
And I’m pretty sure the sunshine
Is having none of that
As the heat I felt at lunchtime
Made it clear where it was at
Yes, the days are shorter
And the nights are drawing in
But there’s promise there a-plenty
That Septembers’ still to bring
Plenty more yet still of that
Warmth we hold so dear
Until the autumn’s cooler days
And the winter chill is here
The air was so brittle
it brought a chill to the bone
So I wasn’t out long
before heading for home
Much better instead to
curl up with a book
with just the occasional
glance up for a look
For sometimes the choice
by the weather is made
So be not disheartened
if at home you have stayed
...all about me and my life in words. I write most days, carrying an ideas book around in which I capture a word snapshot of life around me. So there's a lot here about Sussex and the sea and anything else I see that inspires.
The pictures are mine too. Some taken to match a poem; some poems written to match a pic; others chosen because they work well with words written.
Jemverse is life in words. Hope you enjoy the reading as much as I enjoy the writing...
