Awaking

There is sunshine today
and I think at long last
the Spring has awoken from slumber
as forsythia yellow
like a jolly good fellow
has blooms on its limbs in good number

And although I'll admit
there's still chill in the air
the warmth of the sunshine came through
as we walked in it slow
to meander and go
with a leisurely gait as you do

Tri-haiku XXXVI (Warmth of weekends)

The warmth of weekends
cosy from winter blankets
bodes well to the week

So with high spirits
Monday comes with gusto here
cocooned I embrace

And the warm embers
envelope and protect me
as the week proceeds

Sunshine V

The warmth returned
and with it came
a thing with a forgotten name
It bathed most
everything it saw
with light and warmth and something more

Je ne sais quoi?
I cannot say
but it was lovely yesterday
So it’s my hope
it will decide
to stay a while and here reside

A little yellow…

A little yellow’s what I need
Springtime needs to be here now
Winter’s overstayed its welcome
time to leave and take a bow

Sunshine with its warmer feeling
needed more than I can say
Come as precursor to summer
Welcome now and with us stay

The stranger came…

The sunshine came and visited
today for just a while
Somewhat like a stranger
but gave us cause to smile

With the year that’s still quite young
her warmth has yet to grow
But Spring is not that far away
and will soon be here you know

Then the stranger’s strength will grow
She’ll not be quite so shy
And we’ll welcome her with open arms
whenever she calls by

Hibernation

Most times on these cold winter days
you’ll find me snug inside
as chilliness and cold are things
I really can’t abide

Give me a pen and paper and
some music and you’ll see
that I’m content to stay indoors
and let the winter be

For both these things together
with the pleasure that they bring
Resolve here quite a plenty not
to venture out ’til Spring

Pining for summer

So, winter has me in its grip
and won’t let go right now
Her cold and icy fingers
spider-like across my brow
Shivering, I try to smile
and brave the worst of it
But winter’s not what I’m about
and never seems to fit

For I’m a child of summer
something that’s been said before
I clamour for the warmer months
when cold knocks at the door
I come alive with warming sun
I laugh within its glare
And always, always miss it
whenever it’s not there

Summer’s End

I’m told that come September
England’s summer’s at an end
But I’m not ready yet, I’ll tell you
To say goodbye to my good friend
And I’m pretty sure the sunshine
Is having none of that
As the heat I felt at lunchtime
Made it clear where it was at

Yes, the days are shorter
And the nights are drawing in
But there’s promise there a-plenty
That Septembers’ still to bring
Plenty more yet still of that
Warmth we hold so dear
Until the autumn’s cooler days
And the winter chill is here

April Sunshine

A cream tea with scones
in April sunshine
Temperatures rising
and everything’s fine

Flowers are blooming
with scent on the air
Springtime takes hold
with substance and flair

And I’m in my element
now it has begun
Relaxed in the warmth
that comes from the sun

Home in the warm

The air was so brittle
it brought a chill to the bone
So I wasn’t out long
before heading for home
Much better instead to
curl up with a book
with just the occasional
glance up for a look
For sometimes the choice
by the weather is made
So be not disheartened
if at home you have stayed
