Like a wave

Sometime a whisper
or maybe a shout
Occasionally quiet
but mostly a lout
Always moving
restless, unstill
Rising and breaking
and crashing at will
Demanding respect
its power complete
Ignored at one’s peril
with anger replete
Chameleonic it changes
reflecting the sky
with colours to match
and please every eye
It is fickle and change
with no virtue to save
Every one different
from the sea, like a wave

The Angry Sea – sedoka

In this brittle chill
the sea is often angry
as it tosses waves at me

But I am wary
keeping my distance I stand
in awe above the tideline

Day 1 of 7 in the Jemverse ‘Six Lines’ event – a sedoka a day for 7 days.

Nightbeach

Cast in yellow pools of light
night shadows on the beach
Wooden breakwaters stand tall
robust against the Reach
Mysterious, the water calls
quietly from the shore
as lapping waves just out of sight
return again once more
The sweeping bay, the shingle slopes
the lights along the coast
This peacefulness, this solitude
as the ocean plays the host

Peace and the sea

Peace takes many different forms
but down here it is the sea
On the beach at any time
but today when it’s just me
I hear the waves down on the shore
their motion sings a song
And as I sit and contemplate
I’ll often hum along
It doesn’t really matter
if there’s sun or if there’s rain
for this is a place I’ll come to
many times again

Atlantic surge

Outside our porthole
down on deck one
the waves surge against us
and it’s brilliant fun
Because sometimes the sky
we can see as we oughta
whilst the very next moment
we’re all underwater!

Seagulls, the sea and a song

Alone on the shingle
Salt in my mouth
Braced against wind
Looking to South
Out there in the green
Waves rise and fall
As I listen again
To familiar call
A song just for me
The swoop and the cry
The sea and its music
As seagulls fly by

Day 19 in the ‘Blogging from A-Z challenge

Simplicity

A walk on the beach
with time to unwind
is good for the soul
and good for the mind
The air here is clear
and the smell of the sea
is always a solace
and a comfort to me

Just watching the waves
as they fall on the shore
then move back to the depths
before returning for more
It’s enough and sufficient
in simplicity
for refreshment of spirit
down here by the sea

©Jemverse

As above, so below

As above, so here below
blue sky and deep blue sea
The gently turning silent waves
creep up to welcome me
In this place, that sweetest voice
sings out the quiet refrain
as on this shingle here I stand
upon my beach again

©Jemverse

Splashing

Tidal waters splashing
at the waters’ edge
on the old breakwater
such a privilege
Buried deep in shingle
but still within my reach
as the tide turns one more time
down here at the beach

©Jemverse

Satisfied grin

Sparkling like diamonds
those beads of the sea
shine in the sunshine
and fascinate me
Sitting here on the shingle
as the tide washes in
I am caught in the moment
with a satisfied grin
