Dorset Adventures

Part 1 in the Jemverse series ‘Down in Dorset’

We're all quite excited
and the bags are all packed
with wellington boots
and scarves, coats and hats
the route is selected
and we all know the way
as we're finally going
on our holiday

It's the first time the Crouchers
have been away all as one
since two years ago
before Covid had come
so as you can imagine
we are buzzing with glee
for this week together
as one family

And both dogs will be there
as well which is better
so we're hoping for sun
but won't mind if it's wetter
as we will have fun
because we'll all be together
for Dorset adventures
whatever the weather

Just as I please

I'm on Worthing seafront
it's grey and there's rain
but I'm at Bison's beach bar
with a beer once again

Besides I'm on holiday
so I don't really care
as it's just nice to sit
and do nothing down there

By and by I'll go shopping
for what I came here for
and then have a browse
til wandering's no more

Then I'll make my way back
up to the Worthing station
and catch a train home
to avoid the frustration

Of travel when the trains are full
just taking things at ease
as here I am on holiday
to do just as I please

Travelling again

Last week I braved the train because I had to
and it wasn't all that nice
seemed the people had forgotten
and were content to pay the price

But today was a different matter
and I felt more at ease
travelling in for pleasure
with just myself to please

Besides I wore my face mask
kept myself as safe as safe can be
and that is all I ask for
in this new normality

So it was really quite refreshing
And I felt myself again
building further blocks to keep
this pleasure to remain

The pleasure of these days

Well, although the sun was shining
and some warmth was evident
it wasn't packing substance
to support a whole day spent
sitting by a beach hut
just looking at the sea
So I decided not to do that
quite unreservedly

Having said that, a no brainer
not to waste and not to squander
so as soon as I had breakfasted
I went out for a wander
Down through the streets of Shoreham
on the bright side of the street
to take in this lovely weather
and the glory of it greet

For days like this are precious
like a treasure in my hand
so every one I value
when they fall upon this land
I will lift my head up skyward
and as my eyes squint in the haze
I'll repeat again the thank you
for the pleasure of these days

Haiku – cathartic

I write cathartic
Words as liquid pouring here
onto this lake's page

No remonstating

And this morning the sunshine
returned with a smile
as it's been fairly rainy
and wet for a while
The mercury's rising
and the thermometer shows
the direction the warmth
and my wandering goes

For it's a no brainer
that the beach is the thing
when the weather's like this
for the joy it will bring
And as it's October
it's a bonus that I
can sit there in the sun
and watch life go by

So that's where I'm heading
the beach and the sea
as this is the place
where I love to be
And whenever the chance
is there for the taking
you'll find me down there
with no remonstrating

For fun (aka ‘anticipation V’)

Today I am
quite pleased to say
is when it's gone
is my last day
for two whole weeks
as Monday next
we're off to Dorset
(watch this text)

Yes two whole weeks
of holiday
when I can rest
Hip, Hip, Hooray
two whole weeks
to nothing do
which I'd imagine
so would you

And what is more
the six of us
with both the dogs
and little fuss
have a big barn
in Dorset booked
quaint and remote
not overlooked

And for a week
we all will see
much fun and frolics
joy and glee
Six whole days
somewhere not here
for relaxation
and a beer

And through the summer
I have waited
for this time
anticipated
And so when this
Tuesday is done
I'll put my feet up
for some fun

Our haven

This place, this haven
it's all of us
and we all miss it
if because
for some misfortune
or mishap
we have to tell
the little chap
there'll be no running
through the grass
or round the corner
as we pass

So thankfully
that is quite rare
as we are most
weeks always there
and yesterday
was no exception
you'll have gathered
with perception
by glancing at
the picture here
and seeing on
his face such cheer

So no you weren't
at all mistaken
as we are back
at this our haven
In this field
of seven trees
when we can be
quite at our ease
As Obi runs
and Sal and I
watch him there
as we walk by

It rained

It rained and then
it rained some more
and the more it rained
the more I saw
as water trickled
here and there
and got in
almost everywhere

And we got wetter
wetter still
and still it rained
and rained until
it couldn't rain
more if it tried
and then the sun came
and it dried

Tri-haiku XXXIV (the familiar)

The familiar
just like a comfort blanket
all uniquely mine

Something I cling to
to remind me that today
everything is peace

And I breathe easy
with familiarity
born of pure content
