The pride of September

Ah, the beach hut, lovely place
warm sunshine there in my face
no hint of breeze, well - just a trace
September does us proud

Just back in August we were bereft
as from July the summer left
but now it's back with hand of deft
September does us proud

And now we're back here at the beach
not far from home, in easy reach
a thing or two to August teach
September does us proud

Ivy Gone

Had a conversation with my neighbour
as he chopped the ivy down
been wondering how to tackle that
each day now with a frown
But he provided the solution
hacked it down from other side
including all the overgrowth
on our shed roof I spied

It was good to share a word or two
and I’m pleased they’re keeping well
Social distancing observed of course
I’m also pleased to tell
And now we have less ivy there
as a result which is fantastic
Cos the ivy it had started
to get inside our shed of plastic

Breakwater

Casting long shadows in the late sun

Breakwaters deep in the sand

Wood smooth and moulded, seasoned by salt

And carved by the sea’s mighty hand

Green seaweed covers its old weathered joints

Barnacles on seaward end

Long arms always reaching down to the sea

Its constant and very dear friend.
