Ocean of Me

1 of 3 in the Jemverse ‘Ocean’ trilogy

A whisper carried on the breeze
heard across the air
Like an echo over many years
of me still walking there

The ocean still a part of me
as it has since just a boy
Six decades past it stays the same
a stalwart to enjoy

Stuck in a crowd

Victoria station
this morning and me
Stuck in a crowd and
waiting to see
if the gates to the tube
would anytime soon
open up to the waiting
lest one of us swoon

For congestion aside
we’ve been here too long
and with all of the grumbling
there’s heat in this throng
So come on Victoria
this isn’t a joke
Just open the gates
and be kind to this bloke

The Nasturtium Takeover bid

The nasturtium’s gone manic
now the summer is done
It’s begun to take over
and thinks it’s ‘the one’
If we left it unchecked
It would simply keep growing
and how big it would get
Well, there’s no way of knowing

Perhaps we should crop it
but then things would be duller
For at present its flowers
keep giving us colour
So we’ll leave it a while
with its yellows and gold
For it clings to the summer
whilst the weather gets cold

And we need that reminder
at least for a while
as autumn takes over
and summer’s a smile
For when winter’s cold anger
returns with a frost
This reminder of summer
will be instantly lost

The Welly

The feet upon the wooden floor
Are moving to the beat
as conversation struggles
for those who’ve found a seat
The man up on the microphone
is getting really loud
But the music’s really throbbing
and is pleasing to the crowd

There’s a lot of different footwear
but one purpose to the fore
To tap and move and dance and spin
on this old wooden floor
And at the Duke of Wellington
with friends in Shoreham here
A lovely time was had by all
with music and a beer

The red

I stopped, reduced to tears
when the red before me lay
Tear of joy for splendour
shown to me upon this day

Walking down an avenue
trees on either side
Then this, the most spectacular
to leave me misty-eyed

Nature’s hand, the master
brings perfection to the fore
The red, a perfect picture
How could I want for more?

Nature’s evening slumber

Upon the ground this time of year
the yellow, red and gold
A carpet of pure loveliness
from trees both young and old

Crunchy in the sunshine
fragrant in the rain
It always brings a certain cheer
when autumn comes again

Nature’s evening slumber
change, good as a rest
particularly with the colour
which this time of year is best

Acer

If you put ‘Acer’ into Google
guess what you will see?
Lot of reference to laptops
but seldom to a tree
And yet the humble maple
(the namesake of that brand)
is the pure derivation which,
when seen, you’ll understand

The tall ones are so graceful
But the ‘Acer Palmatum’
really is exquisite
and is for us the one
