Bliss by the water

Down by the waterside
in April sunshine
In the city of Bristol
with weather so fine

There’s history here
from when I was a boy
I’m re-visiting now
with an aim to enjoy

And the laughter the sun brings
encourages this
sitting here peacefully
for enjoyment and bliss

I danced

I danced like no one was watching
really let myself go
right from the start when the music was fast
to the moment it took me down slow

I danced when the goosebumps tingled
right there all down my spine
I danced as all of the music
was unique and especially mine

Moments in Bristol

We had a brilliant time down in Bristol
reliving the days from my youth
Great to see the familiar sights
with some ‘moments’ to tell you the truth

We wandered along by the water
to the SS Great Britain still there
Refurbished of course now and lovely
its history and glory to share

Which was when I had a ‘small moment’
when fifty years back a small lad
stood and watched the Great Britain
towed into dry dock with his Dad

The SS Great Britain was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and was the largest passenger ship in the world between 1845 and 1854. She was also the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic. She was scuttled to a sandbank in the Falkland Islands in 1937 but, in 1970, was towed back to the UK to the dry dock in Bristol where she was originally built. A full restoration programme was begun, returning the ship to her full former glory. I was one of the first people to tread her boards after the 1970 salvage; 48 years later I returned for another look.

Heatwave

A heatwave in April?
Don’t mind if I do
Well, you would if it’s offered
and free, wouldn’t you?
So here’s to the sunshine
and long may it stay
at least throughout April
and well into May

Filling Summer’s boots

And, as they promised, sunshine
burned in the sky today
A cloudless blue spread overhead
with warmth akin to May

Yet it is still mid-April
several more months still
for warmth to build to sultry heat
and summer’s boots to fill

It lifts the spirit, days like these
mere words cannot portray
the pleasure that a warm day brings
in every single way

Flat white to go

Flat white to go
by the Thames in the sun
best way by far
that a day is begun
Watching the river
flow silently by
beneath a pale blue
and promising sky

Waterloo bridge on the
left, and to right
St Paul’s Cathedral
familiar sight
Flat white to go
on London’s South Bank
A few moments respite
with coffee I drank

I’m everything

I’m dancing. I’m rhythm
I’m words on a page
I’m pen and I’m words
from a poet and sage

I’m flowing and form
I’m stanza and verse
I’m meaning and substance
from design and yes, terse

I’m everything pleasure
I’m zest and I’m joy
I’m not holding back
from affection or coy

I’m abundance and spirit
I’m the words that you read
I’m a song that needs singing
from a longing and need

Instapoem

I’m an Instagram poem
a cliche I know
But just stay with me here
and go with the flow
For there’s motive and plan
in the words here you’ll find
born from a thought
that took seed in my mind
As I hope that the reader
if they want an encore
will give me a follow
on Jemverse for more

For an ear

I am music and pleasure
for those with an ear
Hours of contentment
for freedom and cheer

I give goosebumps and shivers
those down the spine
when you hear something good
or especially fine

©Jemverse

Sharing

I am laughter and fun
and everything good
Which if you look around
as you know that you should
You will as I do
find that most everywhere
there is laughter and fun
with a duty to share
