Decima II

It's been a year since my first venture
and back then I swore I'd write
to bring more of them to light
fulfilling this indenture
yet none since by misadventure
To Decima my silent pen
has not looked back to that day when
more of these stanzas I'd compose
creative mind there to repose
for more just now and then

A ‘decima’ is a 10-line poem of Spanish origin with an ABBAACCDDC rhyming sequence. My first venture – ‘Decima 1‘ – (which, if you take a peek from the link) I didn’t quite get right, was a year ago today.

Surprise

So as I sit here writing poems
casting my life into words
capturing nuance as it transpires
from mundane to the absurd
for this it is my passion
a thing I've always done
never still my pen has been
since I was just begun
and long my it continue
for my essence in here lies
always finding things to say
to bring joy and yes, surprise

In the sun II

Wolfgang on the garden bench
panting in the sun
whilst I sit down relaxing
now my working week is done
The warmth today is growing
so whilst I am sitting here
he's given his permission
for me to have a nice cold beer

Beside the Mersey

With Billy there behind me
beside the Mersey there I walked
whilst several other people
ambled slowly as they talked
The sun was bright, the sky a blue
through chill from Irish sea
the breeze was fairly nippy
at least, it seemed that way to me
My sojourn brief in Liverpool
was nonetheless sublime
as those few moments walking
were unique and wholly mine

Friday Bussokuseki

Bussokuseki
for this Friday as it comes
A 'je ne sais quoi'
capturing an essence here
in thirty-eight syllables
as the weekend starts again

[‘Bussokuseki is a six-line Japanese derived non-rhyming stanza with a syllabic sequencing of 5-7-5-7-7-7’]

Between the Vee

In Seven Tree field the sun was bright
as summer came to stay
and Sal and me and Obi had
a lovely walk today

And there was me a-contemplating
a snapshot through a tree
when Sal appeared with Obi
right there between the vee

So as it seemed rude not to
I captured both right there
a picture telling more than words
I’m happy here to share

Garden Rooms

At the end of our garden the wild things grow
but it's colourful in the sun too
there are things that we've made
and precious things saved
which for interest one keeps as you do

Some spider plants made it outside to the sun
as the warmer climes help them to grow
so each day there we see
quite magnificently
this room in our garden on show

Liverpool again

Today I'm travelling further
since the pandemic started
than I have travelled recently
that pleasure long departed
But later Liverpool I'll see
again and better still
two good friends I have sorely missed
again to see I will
It'll take me six hours on the train
but I have all I need
good music to look forward to
and several books to read

Lavender Rescue

I'm salvaging some lavender
it wasn't happy where it was
so I've found a place, a sunny spot
whence it can thrive because
I'll tend it more and water it
and trim the bits that die
so hopefully some flowers will come
to harvest come July

Beaches

Looking out 'cross windswept beaches
though this one's far from home
a familiar feeling warms me
from all the views I've known
For here I'm in my element
close to the sea, my heart
a synergy that's part of me
and has been from the start
